Yep, you read that correctly. I’m taking a little break from Drum and Bass Production. It seems like I’m a little burnt out.
No, I’m not talking about months and months. Just a little break of a week and a bit. I’ve got a few things to wrap up in the studio (mostly admin stuff) and then its some badly needed time off.
Why am I taking time off and how can it help you with your beats?
Well, thats a good question! I normally don’t take time off at all. I”m in the studio pretty much every single day but living like this you can definitely burn yourself out and when your that deep into your beats you can loose perspective of where you’re going with your tunes and what sounds good!
Plus it can really put some pressure on your relationships and if you’re married YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!
I was recently confined to my bed for a whole week due to severe allergies and this made me realise a lot of things.
Firstly, I really missed the studio and this confirmed my love of all things audio wise. I just love firing up Ableton Live or what ever DAW i’m using and making some phat bass or chunky drums! Plus there are a tonne of new VSTi’s being released every week that I positively must check out!
Secondly, being away from the studio I was able to get a birds eye view of what was going down with my tracks or my lack of finishing tracks and this was an awesome revelation. Strangely I don’t get a lot of time to listen to music and when I do get some spare time i’m making beats so being ill I meant that I got to listen to some of the latest Podcasts going around and some of the new releases! Boy are there some good new tunes going around!
This is really inspiring and brilliant for your artistic soul!
So, if you’r not feeling as motivated as you should, to hit the beats hard in the studio, or maybe your tunes are becoming stale then maybe take a break for a few days or a week and see if that doesn’t kick you back into gear! Take some time to listen to some music (DnB or what ever floats your boat) or watch some production videos.. I’m sure you’ll be back smashing down those beats in no time!
Just the thought of me taking a break is making me more motivated then ever! lol
Anyways… this will leave me with some time to write a few more posts for DnbBeats.com and believe me when I say I got LOADS of new stuff I want to write about and share with you guys (or gals for that matter).
Hope that helps
See you on the dancefloor
